CSRDE Survey Instruments

Note: The following materials are provided to help prospective and current members understand the type of data collection that occurs within the Consortium for Student Retention Data Exchange.

Member institutions agree to treat data supplied by fellow consortium members confidentially. Members agree through the CSRDE Membership Agreement that they will use data they receive for internal benchmarking purposes. CSRDE does not supply data on institutions to the public.

CSRDE Retention Surveys track retention and graduation rates of students. We use Excel spreadsheets to collect 2nd year - 11th year continuance and 4th year - 10th year graduation rates. We have three surveys:

Your data will be available on our secure, members-only web site. We'll be in touch to give you instructions for accessing and submitting the data.

All Two-year Institutions

CSRDE Retention Surveys track retention and graduation rates of:

  • First-time full-time cohorts
  • First-time part-time cohort

We use Excel spreadsheets to collect 1st year through 10th year completion and 2nd through 11th year continuation.

Your data will be available on our secure, members-only web site. We'll be in touch to give you instructions for accessing and submitting the data.

Prospective Members
(Four-year and Two-year Institutions)

A sample of the key elements of the survey, definitions, and examples of reporting styles are available by request.

Newly Admitted Members
(Two-year and Four-year Institutions)
  • Once your application has been accepted, we will send the Main Contact and the Institutional Data Assistant a letter by standard mail that gives you individual logins to the CSRDE Portal.
  • In late December/early January we will have a copy of the survey posted to your "Drop Box" in the Portal.
  • Incorporate the CSRDE Production Calendar into your office's production schedule
  • We will also begin sending you emails to keep you up-to-date with deadlines and CSRDE events.

Description of the Survey Instruments for Four-Year Institutions

 

Description of Surveys for Four-Year Institutions:
 

Main CSRDE Survey
Also referred to as Section I: 

Covers Institution-wide retention of first-time, full-time, baccalaureate degree-seeking freshmen cohorts. Also institutional characteristics are collected to assist with the identification of peer institutions.
This is required to be completed by all four-year institutional members.

STEM Survey
Also referred to as Section II and III. This is an optional survey. No additional fee for participation.

 

This survey has two parts, Section II and Section III. Members from 4-year institutions who choose to participate in the STEM survey must also have completed the Main retention Survey (Section I) and complete both Section II and Section III.

Section II: Institution-wide retention and graduation of first-time, full-time freshman science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) majors. (cohorts)

 

Section III: Discipline-specific retention and graduation of first-time, full-time freshman STEM majors. Additional institutional characteristics are also collected.

Community College Transfer Survey
Also referred to as Section IV.
This is an optional survey. No additional fee for participation.

Tracks the retention and graduation of cohorts of community college transfers into 4-year institutions transferring in with 30 or more credit hours. Addresses cohort of full-time and part-time combined.

Student Information Collected from Four-Year Institutions

  • We collect cohort-level data rather than unit-level data from the institutions.
  • Section I, II & III for the 2013-14 year will study ten cohorts from the Fall Cohort of 2003 through the Fall cohort of 2012 first-time freshman cohorts.
  • Section IV will address full and part-time community college transfers from the Fall Cohort of 2003 through the Fall cohort of 2012.

Survey for Two-Year Institutions
   

Main CSRDE Retention Study
for two-year institutions

Also referred to as Section I and II.

 

This survey has two parts. Section I (2 yr) addresses First-time Full-time cohorts. Section II (2 yr) addresses first-time, part-time cohorts.

Section I 2yr: Institution-wide retention of first-time, full-time, degree/certificate-seeking freshmen. This is completed by all two-year institutional members.

 

 

Section II 2 yr: Institution-wide retention of first-time, part-time, degree/certificate-seeking freshmen. This part is also completed by all two-year institutional members.

tball.gif Cohorts: We collect cohort-level data rather than unit-level data from the institutions. For the 2013-14 year we will study the ten cohorts from Fall 2003 through Fall 2012. We will track the first-time, full-time and the first-time, part-time cohorts of degree/certificate seeking students.

Submitting completed surveys

All data submissions to the Consortium will be to our secure, members-only web site.
The electronic submission helps us avoid transcription errors and helps keep the costs to our members in check.

Due Dates:

Four-Year Institutions  
Section I: For the 2013-14 membership year the due date is March 7, 2014. Click here for more information about the current survey cycle.
Sections II and III: For the 2013-14 membership year the due date is May 2, 2014. Click here for more information about the current survey cycle.
Sections IV: For the 2013-14 membership year the due date is July 7, 2014. Click here for more information about the current survey cycle.
   
Two-Year Institutions
